Localbird is an early idea: a trustworthy way to find and request a vetted local, starting in Zurich. This page tells the story and says where things stand. It has no figures, because nothing is proven yet.
The problem
Two things we keep coming back to.
Travel can feel impersonal
Most ways of seeing a city start with an itinerary. Few start with a person.
A new city can feel closed
People who have just arrived, or who live in Zurich as international residents, can find it hard to meet the people who live there.
What Localbird is
Localbird is a way to find and request a vetted local, called a Host, starting in Zurich. A Host shares their own Zurich with a few guests, as a person and not as a route.
Hosts are interesting people who love something about the city. They are not professional guides. Guests are solo travellers, recent arrivals and international residents.
The vetting model
Trust comes first.
Hosts are vetted and invited
Every Host is vetted before they can appear, and Hosts join by invitation only.
The Host confirms
A guest sends a request. The Host confirms before anything is booked, and nothing is charged.
What we are testing
Localbird rests on a hypothesis, not a result. We think experiences with local people, and events where people meet, can grow together as one connected network of people.
We are testing this starting with Zurich. We do not yet know whether it holds.
Where we are
Localbird is a demo. The Hosts and experiences on this site are examples, and each one is labelled as an example. Nothing can be booked or charged here.
We are looking for Hosts in Zurich.
We are not showing results, because there are none to show yet.
